What Makes Scandinave Spa So Special?

Whistler's Scandinave Spa is an iconic outdoor spa that combines traditional Scandinavian thermotherapy with the stunning natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. It’s known for a unique approach to wellness, focusing on the benefits of hot and cold exposure to improve circulation which are known to reduce stress and detoxify the body. Guests move through hot baths, cold plunges and relaxation areas set on a 25,000 square foot property, surrounded by lush forests and mountain views.

The calm atmosphere at Scandinave Spa is enhanced by their commitment to silence and digital detox. You won’t find wi-fi here and the hushed environment encourages a meditative and reflective state of full relaxation. You can allow yourself to fully unwind, free from distractions and stresses of the outside world. It is truly the gift you didn't know you needed!

Massage treatments are also available to enhance your experience, using restorative and deep tissue techniques to fully relax and rejuvenate your body.

The Thermal Journey

The thermal journey involves a hot-cold-relax cycle where you immerse yourself in thermal baths, nordic waterfalls, dry saunas and cold plunges to open up a number of health benefits. Scandinave recommends up to 15 minutes in one of the thermal baths or saunas, then spending up to 30 seconds in one of the cold plunges, followed by 15 minutes in one of the relaxation areas, before repeating the cycle again. The heat exposure relaxes muscles, improves circulation, and releases built-up tension, while the cold stimulates blood flow, reduces inflammation, and revitalizes the body for an energizing boost. The moments of rest and relaxation allow the body to recover, calm the nervous system, and promote a deep sense of tranquility. Repeating this process helps detoxify, reduce stress, and boost overall physical and mental well-being, leaving you refreshed, balanced, and recharged.

The relaxation areas include groupings of chairs around outdoor fire pits, indoor solariums, and a hammock area perched on the hillside at the top of the property. It really is one of the most beautiful and peaceful settings you can imagine.

Where is Scandinave Spa Located?

Scandinave Spa is located only a 5-minute drive north of Whistler Village. Set within a forested area, the spa feels secluded despite its close proximity to town. It’s easy to find and free parking is available on-site. This convenient location makes it easy to combine your spa visit with hiking or skiing in the area.

When Can You Visit Scandinave Spa?

Scandinave Spa is open year-round and offers a magical experience no matter the season. However, you can look forward to a slightly different atmosphere depending on when you visit.

  • Winter: Imagine soaking in steaming hot pools while snow falls gently around you. Winter is one of the most popular times to visit, especially after a day skiing or snowboarding on Whistler's incredible slopes.

  • Summer: During the warmer months, this spa offers a verdant retreat where you can relax in the sun or cool off in a plunge pool. Scandinave is a welcome treat after a day hiking or mountain biking in the mountains.

  • Spring and Fall: The shoulder seasons tend to be quieter and provide an extra peaceful spa experience with fewer crowds. This is also the time of year when the rates are lowest

What to Know about Visiting

Be prepared to relax in silence without your phone or wifi, as talking is discouraged at Scandinave, as is cell phone use. This is the only way to truly reach deep relaxation, so embrace this unique opportunity to be quiet and one with your mind.

The spa is open from 10am to 9pm, with the last entry thirty minutes before closing. Holidays or private events can change the schedule, so always check their website for availability. It's always recommended to book in advance, as this is a very popular spa which can get busy on weekends and holidays.

Rates vary based on season, and weekends are more expensive than weekdays. Scandinave also offers reservations, so that you can be sure there will be space for you upon arrival. Reservations are more expensive than drop-in rates, but a robe, two towels, and a locker are included in your visit.

There is a cafe in the main building, offering nourishing and light food, sweets, and beverages, perfect for fueling up after your thermal session.
