Summer Activities

With all the great actives available for you to enjoy in Whistler and the surrounding areas, and especially with some spectacular biking and mountain biking trails, it is hard to pick a favourite. I wanted to share one that is not usually on the Whistler must-do list, but it was on my Riding Whistler's Sea to Sky Trailbucket list 12 years ago - The Sea to Sky Trail. I have now ridden it 7 times!

Before it was called the Sea to Sky Trail and maintained by Squamish Parks and Rec, it was actually three or four different independent trails that where ridden from Whistler to Squamish. Someone turned the direction around and made a race out of it, called the Cheakamus Challenge.

It was on my bucket list because it was written up in a mountain bike magazine as one of the ten best adventure rides in the world. Now that it is maintained and toned down for most ages and levels of riders, it can be a great bike adventure for most. It still follows most of the same route as the Cheakmus Challenge race, and it still goes through some beautiful country. You feel like you have earned that post ride beverage after riding this 60km trail! For those of you that did not get in enough climbing, you can add on going up the mountain at Creekside!

You can get all the info and gps co-ordinates (they even have them for us knuckleheads that ride it bottom to top!) on the Sea to Sky website.

For those of you that want to add on a second day, the trail now continues on from Whistler past Pemberton, although I have not ridden that portion yet. Maybe one of these days!

This year we even got Dave, Blackcomb Peaks' maintenance and quality control specialist, to ride with us, and we did a great job of slowing the young fella down!

Get out there and give biking the Sea to Sky Trail a try, and secure one of our Whistler vacation rentals as a cozy and warm place to unwind after the ride - preferably with a hot tub to soothe those tired muscles.
