Hello Blackcomb Peaks Friends! How has your summer been so far?
We have been playing a lot this month so we could share our experiences with you first hand! If you like an adventure and good food, here are two tips if you're going to be visiting Whistler in July.
#1 The Sasquatch Zipline by Ziptrek
This dual zipline (side by side) is the latest addition to the Ziptrek portfolio of Whistler lines. Built in 2015, this “summer only” zip will take you on an over 100 km/h ride, soaring 600 ft above the ground (at certain spots). You don’t need previous experience to do it, just a “hunger” for adventure and ideally a little fear to overcome so you can feel proud and super stoked afterwards about doing it! Here is how it goes:
- Book directly with us at concierge@blackcombpeaks.com
- Current rate: from $95 per person
- Meet the Ziptrek team at the base of Wizard Chair 20 minutes before your scheduled time
- Fill out the waiver and wait for the upload
- Enjoy the ride on Wizard and see if you can spot any bears in the area
- At the top - let the Ziptrek team arm you with a helmet and a harness
- Enjoy a short bus ride higher up the mountain and learn about some safety points
- Walk to the Sasquatch base and pretend like you are cool
- Take the ride………………….
A few tips:
- Relax and let the professional buckle you up
- Before you take off, sit in your harness (squat with control) and walk down the steps (try without holding the handle bars). This will help you to trust the gear and allow you to relax a bit.
- Put your hands on the handle bars if you prefer.
- Or just one
- Look at your partner – count 3-2-1 and…………… go……………
- PS: Leave your fancy “sunnies” at home otherwise you may end up like this one!
#2 Whistler BBQ at the Mountain Top
Have you ever dined at 1800 m/6000 ft.? Even if you have, this unique experience can be repeated several times and one may never get enough. Why? Well, because great food for the body and soul is involved, on top of killer views, and that is just hard to beat!
Between now and mid-September, you can try different menus (see below) on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at the Roundhouse Lodge on Whistler Mountain, eating either inside or on the scenic patio - enjoying a delicious meal with a partner, family or simply alone. Since the BBQ and a Whistler lift ticket provide full access to on-mountain sightseeing for the day and access to the Peak 2 Peak gondola, it is a great idea to do this as a full day activity, hiking around a bit, taking photos and enjoying the well deserved dinner afterwards. There are two different seating times for the mountaintop BBQ, one starts at 5:30pm (17:30) and the other at 7pm (19:00).
Here are the menus you can choose from:
- Fridays: Whole Hog BBQ
- Saturdays: Slow Roasted Prime Rib of Beef
- Sundays: Pacific Seafood Grill
See full menu details HERE
And here a few tips based on our “Sunday menu” experience:
- Come early to secure a table on the patio – drop your things on the chairs so nobody takes over and take a photo at the “Top of the World”
- To prevent looooooong waiting times in the dinner queue – get in the line 5 mins before the scheduled dinner time and take as much as you can fit on your plate:
- Getting salads and other foods from the buffet is easy – you may just need to wait a little while for the actual seafood
- Now relax and enjoooy the food – this one is clearly eager to go for another run!
- Hold on – there are desserts to choose from as well – keep some space in your stomach and try everything in one go (That beer is at extra cost, only soft drinks are free)
- Book directly with us at concierge@blackcombpeaks.com
- Current rates: $42 per person / children under 6 are free when with an adult / $79.95 if you require a lift pass.
OK – we hope you will try these activities out and perhaps share some of your photos with us at info at blackcombpeaks dot com if you enjoy yourself!
